Prioritizing your time
Okay, let’s recap from the last blog I wrote concerning picking your battles. Trying to start up a successful Indianapolis t-shirt printing company is a very daunting task. When you consider the fact that there’s only so many working hours in the day, combined with a limited amount of energy, you need to be very discriminating regarding how you spend those valuable resources. It’s even considerably more difficult if you are currently working a 9:00 to 5:00 job and have to go home to a family who also requires your time and attention.
The point I’m making is that you have to be very discerning when it comes to prioritizing, and don’t want to waste your valuable time and effort trying to learn about things that aren’t going to be as relevant as others. In other words, let’s be careful not to put the cart before the horse. I’ve always been a huge believer in working hard but to be honest, it’s not nearly as important as working smart.
Here’s an example. Let’s say you’re running as fast as you can, but if you’re running east when you should be running west, you’re actually going the wrong way. Therefore, you not only need to identify your priorities when doing your research but just as importantly, make sure those resources are reliable. Although you might find a lot of different and conflicting opinions, I would encourage you to consider the source that it is coming from. Ask yourself, is it from another Indianapolis screen printing and embroidery company that has a track record of being successful? Or is it coming from someone who never actually achieved anything in the industry? The reason I mention this is that many folks who are in the marketing and business startups talk in generalities and they’re not actually specific to the digital t-shirt printing industry. I can’t stress enough that you be careful who you listen to as some mistakes can be unforgiving and end up costing you a lot of wasted time and money.
